Word of the 'year'
Sep. 15th, 2010 11:10 amAs per previous posts, I like to have a 'focus word' each year that I use as a sort of meta-narrative for my growth. I was changing them at new year's; I seem to have changed that practice ;)
Last year's was Completion, and I completed that in October and switched to Relaxation. I've now decided that I've got as much out of that as I'm going to and I need another one based on Current Stuff (tm).
While these focus words should really be to 'fix' something, it's in the 'fix' vein that I'm selecting the next one. Basically what I'm trying to fix is having fallen into the practice of one of my least favourite aspects of humanity: the feeling of 'that person's doing something that I think is a little bit wrong, they must be punished'. What's more, I've drifted to an edge of that attitude which could be sumarised as 'I'm feeling bad about whatever, they must be punished'.
And I don't like it. And it's screwing up all of my various levels of relationships. It's particularly irritating because I've previously fixed both of those - in 2000, and then in 2005 - and I don't usually backslide with growth stuff.
So, I've winnowed a few options for the new word, and got down to a choice of Kindness or Humility.
I like Kindness more, but Humility might be a better practice for me.
